Avalanche warning for region Nordenskiöld Land Sunday 06.03.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Unstable conditions due to wind slabs in lee areas. Persistent weak layers may also be triggered where the snow cover is thin.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 5. March 2022

Mountain weather

Saturday 5. March 2022

2-3 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the southeast during the afternoon. -14 °C to -9 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 6. March 2022

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from east. -11 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
